Aperion Speaker Animation

Posted in Animation, Flash, Web on December 10th, 2008 by sketchbookinc

bravus_microsite1I was contacted by David Stewart regarding an animation for a new speaker from Aperion Audio. I’d never heard of the company, but from the looks of it they make some great home speakers and they are right in my backyard to boot!

The focus of the animation is a new kick-ass subwoofer called the Bravus. The animation was to be kept simple, and would be scripted into flash for an online microsite. Check it out. It’s a fairly simple animation, and was actually my first in Vray. Very impressed with this new render engine.

Born Magazine

born_1I was asked to contribute as an artist to the online publication of  Born Magazine while working in Nike Brand Design. Fun experience. I was teamed with writer Andre Darlington and was tasked with creating the visual experience which represented his short story titles “After the Resurrection”. born_2

The story was very dark and disturbing, so with my limited time, and fairly limited ability with flash, I decided to spend most of my time illustrating the various sentences of the story in a similar style to the story. As you can see there is a mixture of hand painted watercolor overlays and photoshop layering, all working together to provide a visually rich experience. born_3

For the flash interface, I found a nice relic looking center element, and decided to use a circular navigation rig to move the viewer through the story. Limited interaction was found through this navigation and some scripting I added to the type which moves as you pass over it.born_4

The experience can be found viewed here.

While working at ZCom, I had the pleasure of designing Lucy.com’s new website. At the time I was fresh out of a freelance gig at Nike, so my initial comps for the site looked very “Nike”. Katy Tisch, also an ex Nike designer, was Lucy.com’s creative director, and her and I had very different aesthetics to say the least. I recall being quite frustrated by Katy’s requests and influencing.

Her design style was something that did not come easy to me.

Eventually with the help of ZCom CD Chris Miller, we were able to create a compelling website that we were all happy with. After the long process I wrote a rap song and sang it at the lucy.com launch party after a few beers. Katy was quite entertained at my willingness to make fun of myself. lucy

Woodburn Factory Store for Olive

My friend Eric Goldstein hired me to design a flash website for the woodburn factory stores after ZCom went out of business. At the time I was fairly new to Flash, but I did do all the scripting and flash work on this site. Included in the functionality was an interactive map of the mall layout. The client was able to update information via text files on this site. woodburn1
